Abstract
1486759 Oxidizing ferrous sulphate ALUMINIUM PECHINEY 6 July 1976 [9 July 1975] 28087/76 Heading C1A Ferrous sulphate in an aqueous solution containing 250-600 g/l free H 2 SO 4 is oxidized by adding 60-250 g/l of hydrochloric acid to the solution and contacting with a gas containing free oxygen, e.g. O 2 , O 3 or air. The solution may also contain large quantities of aluminium sulphate and/or small quantities of various other metal sulphates, particularly alkali metal sulphates and is particularly suitable for the treatment of such solutions derived from the sulphuric acid reaction with a silico-aluminous or aluminous material. Aluminium chloride may then be precipitated from such solutions without contamination with iron.
