1491390 Piperazine derivatives TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 14 May 1976 [2 June 1975 (2)] 19962/76 Heading C2C A process for preparing piperazine derivatives of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are hydrogen or-alkyl; R<SP>4</SP> is an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, saturated heterocyclic or aryl radical and R<SP>5</SP> is hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, saturated heterocyclic or aryl radical, are prepared by contacting a dialkanolamine of the formula with a compound of the formula R<SP>5</SP>.NH 2 in the presence of a phosphorous compound at a temperature of from 200‹ to 350‹ C. under a pressure sufficient to maintain the reactants in the liquid phase. The phosphorous compound is suitably a phosphoric or phosphorous acid derivative and is preferably present in an amount of from 0À1 to 10À0 mole per cent, based upon the dialkanolamine.
