1494886 Morpholine derivatives TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 20 May 1976 [2 June 1975 (2)] 20807/76 Heading C2C A process for the production of a morpholine derivative of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP> are independently hydrogen or alkyl, and R<SP>4</SP> is hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, saturated heterocyclic or aryl radical, comprises contacting a glycol of the formula with ammonia or an amine of the formula R<SP>4</SP>.NH 2 in the presence of a phosphorus compound at a temperature of from 220‹ to 350‹ C. under a pressure sufficient to maintain the reactants in the liquid phase. The phosphorus compound is suitably an acidic metal phosphate, a phosphoric or phosphorous acid or anhydride, an alkyl or aryl phosphate or phosphite ester, an alkyl- or aryl-substituted phosphorous or phosphoric acid, an alkali metal salt of phosphoric acid, a thioanalogue of the foregoing, or a mixture thereof.
