Abstract

1490568 Supporting tunnels BOCHUMER EISENHUTTE HEINTZMANN & CO 4 Dec 1974 [5 Dec 1973] 52546/74 Heading E1F A method of introducing a ring support into a tunnel comprises raising a segment into an aperture 7 in annular guide 6, the guide having a smaller diameter than that of the tunnel and a channel which is open towards the tunnel periphery and towards the rear of the tunnel, advancing the segment along the guide 6 by an endless chain 16 until it is retained by a friction wheel 34, coupling the segment to an immediatly following segment repeating the above steps until the guide is filled with connected segments, expanding the segments by a piston and cylinder assembly 50 so that they disengage the guide and engage with the tunnel periphery, and connecting the first and last segments followed by the removal of the assembly 50. The segments are raised by a ram mounted on a carriage 38 and are retained in the guide by bent lever 23 which may be pivoted into an inoperative position by a ram 26. A plough is mounted on the face side of the guide to prevent debris from jamming between the guide and the tunnel periphery.
