Abstract

1487057 Tube drawing KABEL-UND METALLWERKE GUTENHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG 20 April 1976 [13 May 1975] 15931/76 Heading B3P In a method of drawing a tube 3 wherein the tube runs through a drawing die 2 and on to a drawing drum providing the necessary tractive force, the portion of the tube upstream of the die 2 is passed through a guide 5 whose axis substantially coincides with the die axis, the guide being disposed immediately upstream of the die before the commencement of drawing and being moved away from the die as drawing is commenced. The guide 5 is mounted in a carrier 6, which is slidable within the die holder 1, and is moved by hydraulically operated rams 7. The close proximity of the guide to the die prior to drawing means that only a small spike 4 is necessary thereby reducing waste, while the guide can subsequently be positioned relative to the die so that straightening devices may be dispensed with.
