Abstract

1434438 Coil supports VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN UND STAHLWERKE ALPINE MONTAN AG 23 April 1974 [18 May 1973] 17697/74 Heading B8R An apparatus for unwinding and straightening the leading end 34, Fig. 6, of a hot-rolled strip coil 12 comprises a coil carrying car 1 connectable by a coupling 9, Fig. 1, to a pulloff car 2 and mounted on respective guide rails 8, 10, the car 1 being provided with a pair of coil supporting rollers 4, 5 and an interposed table 6 as well as a backing roller 7, whilst the pull-off car 2 is provided with a coil supporting roller 11 for co-action with the roller 4 and also provided with a further backing roller 16. The apparatus, moreover, is provided with the leading end stripper 19 co-operating with a gripper 20 for unwinding the leading end 34 and straightening it over the backing roller 16. In operation a coil at a station 33 is lifted by the table 6 of the car 1 which is then moved towards car 2 coupled to it and the backing roller 7 is then actuated by its fluid actuator 28 to displace the coil 12 from carrying rollers 4, 5 to carrying rollers 11, 4, the backing roller 16 being also used in this operation. The coil is then engaged by holding mandrels 13, the stripper blade 19 actuated to strip the leading end 34 of the coil which is rotated for this purpose. Next the leading end is gripped, the coil raised of the rollers 4, 11 and the backing roller 16 brought into a straightening position. The coupled cars 1, 2 are then displaced away from a retaining device 3 which includes the stripper and gripper 19, 20 to unwind a required length of the strip. The coil is then lowered on to the rollers 4, 11 rotated through an angle and transferred to the rollers 4, 5 with the aid of backing rollers 7, 16. Finally the cars 1, 2 are uncoupled and car 1 displaced to a coil processing station 36.
