Abstract
1490203 Propelling air-cushion vehicles MACKLEY-ACE Ltd 20 Oct 1975 [10 Oct 1974] 43851/74 Heading B7K An air-cushion vehicle is propelled by a surface-engaging propulsion unit 7 which is retractable upwardly in a vertical sense. The unit includes a support structure 8 which is movable on rollers 15 in a vertical casing 9 fixed to the vehicle body, the movement being effected by a double-acting hydraulic jack 17. Pivoted to the lower end of the support structure is a beam 25 which carries wheels 29, or alternatively carries an endless track (45), Fig. 3 (not shown), a paddle wheel (46) and, water propellers (47). Steering of the vehicle is achieved by differential use of the propulsion units. The cushion-forming fluid may be water.
