Abstract

1490035 Clearing blocked pipes F K SKOWRONNEK 7 Jan 1976 [16 Jan 1975] 00570/76 Heading F2N [Also in Division F1] A device for clearing a blocked pipe comprises a bottle 1 of compressed gas, a cap 2 for sealingly engaging the end of the pipe and for acting through a stem 5 to open a valve 4 when the bottle is pressed into the cap against the force of a spring, gas then flowing into the pipe from opening 7, the spring comprising a resilient sleeve of the cap which engages part of the bottle and which is radially enlarged or decreased when the bottle is pressed into the cap. As shown, sleeve 12 co-operating with tapered bottle portion 13 constitutes the spring. The inner periphery of the free end of the sleeve may be tapered (Fig. 2). Alternatively, the spring may be provided by a tapered modification of sleeve 8 engaging the inner periphery of the turned over lip at the top of the bottle (Figs. 3 and 4). The pipe-engaging end surface of cap 3 may be frusto-conical (as shown) or part-spherical.
