Abstract

1415840 Resealable closures; pipe connectors BUSBY & CO Ltd 12 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 59837/71 Heading B8T [Also in Division F2] A metal resealable closure has a cylindrical body 7 with a rim 8 and a base 9 with a flange 10 that serves as a grip. A resilient 0-ring, seated and retained within the rim 8, has a small radial clearance 12. The closure size is selected so that the 0-ring may engage the groove 5 of a neck or tubular end portion 4. When the closure is removed the clearance 12 permits the 0-ring to expand radially as it is withdrawn from the groove 5 over the tubular portion 4. The 0-ring remains trapped within the rim 8 on relative sliding movement because the circumferential extent of the rim covers more than 180 degrees. An arrangement is envisaged whereby the device may have an adaptor to actuate a valve in the body 1 and thus act as a connector for fluid flow through the valve. The closure may be suitably shaped for use with oval or square openings with rounded corners.
