Abstract

The shut-off valve, which is used predominantly for installation in water pipes, has a closing element which can be moved up and down by means of a spindle (10), is covered with a rubber-elastic cover (12) and extends from a lower spherical-cap-shaped end portion (13) to a slightly conical end portion (14) on the spindle side. In between there is an intermediate portion (15). The cover (12) has ribs (19) and mutually offset and overlapping grooves (20, 20a). The grooves (20, 20a) give the cover (12) greater deformability, so that its dimensions can be somewhat larger than those of the seat parts, thereby improving the sealing effect in the slightly conical end portion (14).
