Abstract
148,679. Crowther, H. L. June 27, 1919. Transformers.-The primary and secondary windings 4, 5 of a transformer are wound as twin wires on two bases, the ratio of the inductance of the primary and secondary windings on one base being the same as that of the windings on the other base, and the bases are adjustable relatively to one another in order to vary in equal proportions the selfinduction of the primary and secondary circuits. The transformer is especially adapted for use with the thermionic valves 9, 15 of a wavereception apparatus, the primary winding 4 being connected to the anode 8 of the first valve and to the battery 12, while the ends of the secondary winding are connected to the grid 14 of the second valve and to the battery 18. The windings are of equal inductance and may be wound in the form of flat disks which can be moved one over the other or reversed in order to vary the inductance for tuning purposes. In a modification, the twin wires are wound consecutively on two bases one of which is adjustable within the other about an axis lying in the planes of the windings. When more than one transformer is used, they are arranged as shown in Fig. 3, with a number of pairs of windings on two bases 19, 20. One of the bases slides in a groove in the other so that it is possible to tune all the transformers to the same natural period with one adjustment.
