Abstract

1485963 Void formers R K STOUT 16 Sept 1974 [20 Sept 1973] 40295/74 Headings E1A and E1W Void formers, which can be joined together to make up a network of spaces within a concrete beam, column, wall or floor, arc of hollow elongate form with projections, e.g. 20 or opposed faces, and are moulded from a frangible material, e.g. foamed polystyrene. In a wall or floor, formers are connected together side-by-side via tongue and groove configurations of the projections 20, 22. Projections, e.g. 32 on the other faces of a square-sectioned former facilitate access through concrete cast around the formers into the square network which may be used for pipes, electric cables &c. The internal partitions 48, and 24, and the end partitions 16 are all weakened to facilitate their removal when desired, and each former is preferably formed in two parts, as shown in Fig. 1.
