Abstract

1485927 Feeding animals SCHMEING Gebr 31 March 1976 [26 April 1975] 13057/76 Heading AIM Apparatus for supplying a desired volume of pumpable feed to a feeding station comprises a container 8 charged and discharged through an aperture 7 and having the volume of feed therein limited by a piston 9 having a piston rod 10 engaging an adjustable abutment 14. A valve 2 controls connection of the aperture 7 with a feed supply pipe 1 and with an outflow duct 5 leading to a feeding trough 6. The valve 2 is pivoted at 18 and biassed anti-clockwise by a spring 20 tensioned by rotating a crank 19 through 180‹ from the position shown. When the spring is so tensioned, supply of feed under pressure through pipe 1 pivots the valve 2 until a bore 16 therein registers with the aperture 7 and feed is supplied to the container up to the limit determined by the piston. Thereafter continued supply of feed through pipe 1 causes the valve 2 to move further clockwise and close the aperture, and feed can then be supplied to downstream storage containers in an animal feeding installation. When all the containers have been filled the pump is switched off and each valve 2 is moved by its spring 20 to the position shown, in which feed flows from the container to the feed trough 6. When the spring tensioning crank 19 is in the position shown, supply of feed through pipe 1 shifts the valve 2 fully clockwise to a position closing the aperture 7, and feed can be pumped through pipe 1 around the whole installation to achieve a thorough mixing.
