Abstract

1,039,006. Livestock feeding devices R. E. SPALTON. July 26, 1965 [July 28, 1964], No. 29954/64. Heading A1M. Feeding apparatus comprises a bulk feed tank from which liquid food is pumped along a flow line provided with a number of branches 10 each of which is connected to a vessel 21 adapted to receive a predetermined amount of liquid and having an outlet provided with a feeding teat 50. A float 36 is carried by a threaded rod 28 formed with a bulbous part 27 engaged on respective sides by a spring-loaded peg 33 and a plug 25 located within passage 13 communuicating with branch 10, the arrangement being such that liquid pumped along passage 13 moves plug 25 thereby depressing part 27 and moving peg 33 outwardly so that the rod and float are free to fall under gravity. As liquid enters vessel 21 via passages 13, 18 and spreader 22, the float rises until part 27 pushes over peg 33 and displaces plug 25 to shut off the flow of liquid. A light-weight ball 42 is located adjacent the vessel outlet and seals the outlet when the vessel is empty. The bulk-feed tank receives milk powder and hot water and is provided with a mixing device and the pump is automatically stopped when all vessels 21 are filled.
