1343811 Moistening grain R W WINTER 2 March 1972 [3 March 1971] 5881/71 Heading A2Q A grain moistening apparatus comprises a spray outlet for discharging moistening fluid into the grain, means for supporting a container of fluid above the spray, a fluid supply conduit leading to the spray, means connected to the supply conduit for maintaining a constant head of fluid above the spray, arid means for varying the size of the fluid outlet at the spray, the container support means being arranged for supporting the container in an attitude such that the fluid can flow from the container out to the constant head means. As shown in Fig. 1, a container 18 of, e.g. a preservative such as propionic acid, is held in cradle 16 and is pivotable about 20 to the position shown as dotted line, moistening fluid flowing to the spray outlet when the container is in this latter position. In this latter position valve cap 36 on the container co-operates with constant head device (Fig. 2, not shown). Thus a valve member in 36 is lifted from its seating permitting fluid flow to spray outlet. This flow will continue until the level of fluid in the constant head device rises to a level at which it will cut off the passage of air through the valve to the discharging container. Fluid from the constant head means passes to a spray head 58, (Fig. 3), this head comprising a tube 66, closed at one end, and provided with apertures 70. A sleeve 72 axially movable relative to tube 66, controls the number of apertures 70 through which moistening fluid may be discharged. The movement of this sleeve is controlled by the arm 74.
