Abstract

1485348 Variable output power transformers WELDING INDUSTRIES OF AUSTRALIA PTY Ltd 26 Sept 1975 39584/75 Heading HIT A variable leakage reactance transformer comprises a core 1 having laminations fastened with clips 2 windings 5 and 9 on the core, one (9) movable relative to the other, and a shunt means 18 movable with the movable winding. In the position of minimum inductance shown the movable winding 9 is remote from the fixed winding 5 and the shunt means forms a leakage flux path between them. Rotation of the movable winding 9 about its support on the member 13 brings it close to the fixed winding 5 and removes the shunt means 18 from between the windings. The reduced leakage flux in this position gives maximum inductance. A pair of such movable winding/shunt assemblies may be provided by using a double core (Fig. 5, not shown) formed from laminations similar to those of the core of Fig. 1 but without the "keeper" A and with the laminations interleaved and fastened with nylon rivets or welded. In this embodiment the movable windings may be linked to act in unison or may be movable separately to give a greater range of control or to supply a pair of appliances.
