1484013 Brakes for hand-propelled vehicles; pedals; linkwork ROSS & BONNYMAN (ENG) Ltd 16 Aug 1974 [18 Aug 1973] 39142/73 Headings F2E and F2K A brake intended for a wheeled pallet comprises an actuating member 14 having a brake shoe 15, and an operating mechanism for moving the member along the inside of a bush 9 to engage the wheel; the operating mechanism includes a first operating member, e.g. pedal 19, which when moved clockwise from the position shown in Fig. 2, transmits a force resiliently, e.g. by a rubber member 30, to a catch mechanism 25 having an integral abutment portion 27; after sufficient movement the catch engages (by abutment portion 27 under a fixed stop member 31, Fig. 3 to hold the brake on; the catch mechanism 25 has a second operating member, e.g. pedal 26, which can be moved to disengage the abutment portion 27 from stop member 31, in opposition to a resilient bias which is maintained by the first operating member 19 until the abutment disengages and the first operating member returns to the position of Fig. 2. As shown, the resilient bias referred to is provided by the rubber member 30 mentioned earlier. Pedal 19 is pivoted at 23 on base frame 10, while catch mechanism 25 is pivoted at 28 on pedal 19. Pedal 19 acts through a cam 24 secured to it to pivot a blade member 20 counter-clockwise about a stud 21 to lower brake shoe 15 into contact with the wheel. The blade member extends also to the right to to apply another shoe to another wheel.
