Abstract

1468985 Castors HAPPE & CO 20 Nov 1974 [8 Dec 1973] 50303/74 Addition to 1396227 Heading A4U [Also in Division F2] In a castor similar to that described in the main Specification a brake lever 11 is pivoted at 10 and has brake areas 14, 15 for respective engagement with a fork mounting plate 3 and the castor wheel 5, the brake area 15 being on a splayed arm 16 and the areas being movable into braking engagement by a foot pedal 17 which is pivoted at 18 for movement between the nonbraking position shown and a depressed braking position, Fig. 2 (not shown), in which the arm 16 is moved away from the body of the lever, and a spring-loaded foot-actuated brake release lever (21) being pivoted at (20) on the pedal 17 for movement relative to the pedal 17 into engagement with the wheel 5 for raising the pedal 17 and so returning it to its nonbraking position. The lever 11 is adjustable by a screw 12 and is supported by a spring 25, and the pedal 17 is adjustable by screws (23) located in a plastics insert 24, the screws (23) being self tapped into the insert 24 to make lock-nuts superfluous. In a second embodiment, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the spring biasing the brake release lever (21) acts to move the lever away from the pedal 17.
