Abstract

148,383. Friedmann, D. T. Nov. 17, 1917, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Chucks.-A two-part jaw for a chuck comprises a work-holding portion 2, which is pivotally mounted on a base portion 1 adapted to be radially adjusted in the chuck body. The base portion has a a dovetail projection 3 engaging a corresponding recess in the work-holding member. A spring-pressed pin 7 coacts with one of two recesses 6 so that the work-holding member may be quickly turned. on a pivot 4 from one working position to the other. When the work is to be chucked eccentrically the jaws may be turned so that their full gripping surfaces are operative. A modification is described in which any tendency-due to wear-of the work to turn on an axis at right-angles to the pivot 4 is resisted by curved projections on the base portion which engage corresponding slots in the work-holding member.
