Abstract

122,063. Jerrim, J. H. Feb. 13, 1918. Vices.-Machine and other vices or work-holders of the type having jaws with adjustable parts to conform to the shaft of irregular work, are provided with pivoted jaw members independently adjustable and capable of being locked in the adjusted positions. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the vice comprises a base a with a movable jaw b of usual construction, and a fixed jaw with two pivoted members c, d having faces e for gripping the work. These faces e may be bevelled jaw-plates as shown adapted to force the work down when it is gripped. The members c, d have inclines f backed by upstanding parts on the base a, and are formed with teeth g engaged by locking- plungers h to hold them in the adjusted positions. For moving the members c, d, pins j may be provided. In the modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the members c, d are of quadrant form with integral pivot projections, and each member carries a bolt l, the head of which engages in a curved undercut groove m. Locking-plungers also may be provided, as in Figs. 1 and 3.
