Abstract

1482957 Space dyeing yarns INTERDYE TECHNOLOGY CORP 8 Oct 1974 [2 Jan 1974] 43606/74 Heading D1L Yarns are space dyed by firstly completely immersing skeins of the yarn in a first dye bath and then partially immersing the skeins in a second and optionally a third dye bath, to varying depths. The skeins are supported on pairs 42 of parallel bars 44, 45 which, together with rear edge brace 49 and removable front edge brace 50, form racks 40 suspended at 56 by adjustable length chains 66 from harness 60, the harness being supported by cables 77, 78 and 79 from hoist 70. The bars 44, 45 are interconnected by arcuate saddles 46 which rest on dye tubes (34) [Fig. 6 (not shown)]. The skeins. which encircle the bars 44, 45 and tubes (34), are retained thereon by front edge brace 50 which is removable by withdrawal of bar 54 extending apertures in tabs 47 (which extend through slots in the brace) attached to saddles 46 [see Fig. 6]. The dye tubes (34) extend from a central conduit (32) which is supplied with re-circulated dye liquor via hollow legs (30) and cross-member (29) which has openings (31) disposed above openings (26) in the false bottom (22) of he vat 20 [Fig. 12 (not shown)], dye liquor being re-circulated by pump (25). In operation the 4 racks 40 containing the skeins are lowered together with the dye tube assembly into the vat using hooks (33) [see Fig. 12]. The racks are then attached to the harness 60 and the vat filled with hot water to bulk and heat set the yarn. Following addition of the first dye to the aqueous bath and exhaustion thereof, the skeins are removed. A second dye is then added and the skeins lowered to partially immerse the skeins therein. Uneven dyeing may be obtained as illustrated in Fig 3a (not shown) by tilting the racks by varying the lengths of the chains 66. Power jacks may also be used [Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown)]. A third dye may be used to give the effect illustrated in Figs. 2B and 3B (not shown).
