Abstract

1,200,086. Wool treating apparatus. VEPA A.G. 13 Sept., 1967 [29 Sept., 1966], No. 41700/67. Headings DIL and DIP. Apparatus for shrinkproofing and dyeing wool comprises, in sequence, a feeding device 1, a roll padder 3 where the wool is impregnated with shrinkproofing and anti-felting liquid, at least two rinsing and neutralising baths 7 containing perforated suction drums, a further padder 9 for the application of dyeing liquor, a heat-treatment chamber 10, e.g. a J-box, two or more baths 7' having perforated suction-drums for washing out unfixed dyestuffs, auxiliary agents and for rinsing, a drying chamber 11 having three perforated suction drums and a packing or winding device 12', squeeze rolls 6, 8, 8' being provided after each impregnating device, and a common control device for all the units. A chute 5 may follow the padder 3 the wool being delivered upwardly from the lowest point of the chute to the first bath 7. In the above the wool is in the form of top slivers. It may be fed as loose fibrous stock in which case the paddles 3 and 9 are replaced by a baths containing suction drums, and the J-box is replaced by a horizontal conveyor type steamer. The shrinkproofing and anti-felting may be carried out using an alkaline hypochloride solution with a pH of 7.5-10 and an active chloride content of 1-6% by volume preferably containing 0.1 to 1% of a wetting agent. Alternatively polyamide epoxy resin solutions or ammonium peroxydisulphate may be used.
