Abstract

1481681 Bearings GLACIER METAL CO Ltd 26 June 1974 [27 June 1973] 30712/73 Heading F2A A plain bearing has a metallic alloy lining bonded to a steel backing and a non-metallic overlay of dry lubricant (e.g. graphite, PTFE or MoS 2 ) on the lining. The overlay is bonded to the lining by a resin e.g. alkyd, phenolic, epoxy, silicone, cellulosic or acrylic resin, and may be formed by spraying the lining with a liquid comprising the resin and powdered lubricant. Alternatively the lubricant may be applied to the lining as a preformed strip of lubricant and uncured resin, the strip then being heated to cure the resin and bond the overlay to the lining. The lining may be an alloy of lead, tin, copper, iron, indium, and/or aluminium, and may be formed on the backing either by rolling on a preformed strip of lining or by sintering of metallic particles.
