Abstract

1,195,685. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO. Ltd. 22 Sept., 1967 [23 Sept., 1966], No. 42562/66. Heading F2A. A bearing material comprises a metal backing with a bearing layer of plastics, the bearing surface containing lubricant pockets extending below the bearing layer. The metal backing comprises steel, bronze, copper, aluminium tin alloy or aluminium. The plastics comprises acetal, nylon, formaldehyde condensate, isocyanate condensate, epoxide, polyester or phenoxy resins. To manufacture the material, the backing is degreased and roughened, the plastics layer is bonded to the backing and pockets are formed by drilling, etching, electro-chemical machining, or punching. The pockets may extend completely through the material, may be of non-uniform size, and may be arranged at the apices of equilateral triangles.
