Abstract

1481563 Cracking catalyst MOBIL OIL CORP 17 July 1974 [20 Sept 1973 8 Feb 1974] 31664/74 Healing B1E [Also in Divisions Cl and C5] A cracking catalyst in the form of particles suitable for use in a moving-bed or fluidisedbed cracking unit, comprises at least one component catalytically active for cracking of a mixed hydrocarbon feedstock in the absence of added hydrogen and having an average pore size sufficiently large to admit benzene, and a metal component which is a platinum group metal or rhenium or compounds thereof in an amount of up to 50 ppm metal based on the catalyst, the metal component being accessible to the feedstock. The cracking component may be silica in combination with one or more of alumina, magnesia or clay or a zeolite in a matrix of one or more of silica, alumina, magnesia, zirconia or clay. The metal component may be incorporated by ion-exchange or impregnation and may be deposited from a hydrocarbon feedstock containing a dissolved compound thereof, e.g. a metal diketone, metal carbonyl, metallocene, metal-olefin complex having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, metal-acetylene complex metal complex of alkyl- or arylphosphines or metal carboxylate of 1 to 20 carbon atoms. The metal component has the function of reducing the level of CO in the flue gases arising from regeneration of the catalyst by decarbonisation.
