Abstract
1,200,232. Hydrocracking. UNION OIL CO. OF CALIFORNIA. 18 Dec., 1967, No. 57425/67. Heading C5E. A process for hydrocracking a hydrocarbon feedstock containing both polycyclic and non- polycyclic hydrocarbons comprises subjecting said feedstock plus at least 500 SCF/B of added hydrogen to catalytic hydrocracking at pressures above 400 p.s.i.g. in contact with two different catalysts A and B, catalyst A consisting essentially of an amorphous solid cracking base upon which is deposited a minor proportion of a Group VIII noble metal, catalyst B consisting essentially of a crystalline, zeolitic, molecular sieve cracking base upon which is deposited a minor proportion of a Group VIII noble metal, catalyst B containing a substantially higher atomic proportion of noble metal than catalyst A, and recovering desired low-boiling hydrocarbons from said hydrocracking. The amorphous cracking base of catalyst A may be a composite of silica gel with alumina, zirconia, titania, or magnesia. The two catalysts may be mixed and the feedstock passed through both simultaneously, or the catalysts may be in separate reactors, the feedstock being passed through them sequentially. In the latter case the feedstock is preferably contacted with the amorphous cracking catalyst first. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,056,301, 1,094,467 and 1,102,518.
