1478900 Bidets M B BARRADA 8 July 1974 30195/74 Heading A4N [Also in Division E1] A water closet bowl is provided with a cleaning water supply passage 35, Fig. 1A, having an inlet for connection to a water supply pipe 21 and a single outlet (37), Fig. 1B (not shown), fixed to or integral with the bowl in the upper margins thereof and adapted to direct water as either a jet or a spray horizontally towards a user when seated, and a valve 22 to control the flow through the passage 35. The passage may be part of a hinge construction for the seat of a conventional water closet bowl (11), Fig. 1 (not shown). In other embodiments it may be formed integrally with the bowl, Figs. 2-5 (not shown). The bowl 50, Fig. 2A, of vitreous china has the cleaning water supply passage 61, with inlet 63 and outlet 65, cast into the flushing water inlet 52 of the bowl, the valve (not shown), being on or near the closet seat. Alternatively, the cleaning water supply passage may be separately formed from e.g. plastics, metal or glass, and be inserted into a bore formed in the bowl. Internal voids may be cast in a bowl by the use of plaster plugs or collapsible rubber tubes, which are removed after the form has hardened. The outlet of the cleaning water supply passage may be located either at the rear of the bowl and directed forwardly, Figs. 1-5 (not shown), or at the front of the bowl and directed rearwardly, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). Alternatively, a front outlet may be provided in addition to a rear outlet. The control valve may be replaced by a mixer tap unit, so that a mixture of hot and cold water may be supplied.
