Abstract
1478773 Stoppers for metallurgical vessels CENTRE DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES - CENTRUM VOOR RESEARCH IN DE METALLURGIE 31 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974 28 Nov 1974] 45164/75 Heading F4B A non-replacable stopper for the pouring nozzle of a metallurigical vessel comprises a body 6 to be located in the nozzle bore, a head 7 engaging the inner surface of the vessel at the nozzle entrance, and a shouldered element 8 engaging the outer surface of vessel at the nozzle outlet, at least one of the head or the shouldered element having a screw thread co-operating with a thread on the body for movement longitudinally of the body. The head 7 is tapered to seat in the inlet funnel 4 of the nozzle and preferably has a conical top. The shouldered element 8 engages a base collar 10 sealing against the nozzle, and the body 6 has a notch 11 at the end of the threads on which the element 8 is engaged. The body and elements are made of material of better heat conductivity than the refractory of the nozzle, and at least the head 7 is of less density than the molten metal, so that when the element 8 is broken off the head 7 can rise through the melt. The head may be of graphite, and may be arranged to break from the body 6 and part 8.
