Abstract

Novel compounds of the formula (II) <IMAGE> are prepared by reacting the ester of a corresponding 12,13-epoxy compound with a compound of the formula R<6>OH or R<6>SH where -O-R<6> or -S-R<6> is equal to R<3>, and hydrolysing the resulting ester to give an acid of the formula (II). The meaning of the symbols is evident from claim 1. The secoprostaglandins are suitable in veterinary medicine as fertility regulators for oestrus synchronisation and for treating infertility, and in human medicine as postcoital contraceptives.
