1477370 Oxidizing Ti or Ti alloy surfaces CENTRE STEPHANOIS DE RECHERCHES MECANIQUES HYDROMECANIQUE & FROTTEMENT 6 Aug 1974 [6 Aug 1973 9 Nov 1973 27 June 1974] 34532/73 Heading C7U A Ti or Ti alloy surface is oxidized by first removing at least 2 microns of the existing oxide by e.g. sanding, subjecting it to a vacuum of 1 to 10-8 Torr, introducing oxygen such that Q/S is 10<SP>-3</SP> to 2À55 mg./sq. c., where Q is the amount of O 2 and S is the surface area, whilst heating to 450 to 880C, preferably for 2 to 30 hours.
