Abstract
147,646. Pohlmann, A. C. (Firm of), and Frank, P. A. R. Aug. 26, 1918, [Convention date]. Walls comprising pillars 4 and joists 7 of ferro-concrete and intermediate hollow blocks 1 with concrete facings 2 are built so that the pillars and joists are wholly insulated from the inner and outer portions of the wall by air spaces and poor conductors of heat. The hollow blocks 1 consist of wooden frames subdivided by sheets 12 of iron, pasteboard, &c. to form internal air spaces, and when erected are faced with frames 13 covered on each side with millboard 14 and projecting beyond the blocks at one or both ends. The projections and wooden ends of the blocks form moulds for the pillars 4. The concrete facings 2 may be applied to the millboard 14 before or after erection, and the walls are finished with plaster 5, 6. Mortar is applied only at the edges of the bed-joints as shown in sectional elevation in Fig. 7. The joist 7 is cast in situ in an L-shaped block or frame.
