147,608. Lichty, W. Feb. 7, 1914, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Wood, treating with liquids.-Nitro-compounds of phenol and its homologues when neutralized with inorganic bases are rendered safe for use as wood preservatives by admixture with salts of sulpho acids of aromatic hydrocarbons or their substitution products. Examples of the latter are the zinc, calcium and magnesium salts of naphthalene-sulphonic acid, the sodium and calcium salts of phenol sulphonic acid, the solutions obtained in the production of the sulpho acids of crude naphthalene, crude anthracene, and crude phenathrene; also the products obtained by neutralizing the acids in tar oil with zinc oxide, magnesia, or soda lye.
