Abstract

1475269 Sound absorbing foamed polymer articles CARL FREUDENBERG 4 July 1975 [7Aug 1974] 28351/75 Heading C3C [Also in Division F2] An airborne sound absorbing structure is in the form of a sheet or flat strip or a shaped article of sheet-like or strip-like material, which consists of a closed-cell flexible synthetic resin foam having a dissipation factor #>0À01 and particles having a density a number of times greater than that of the foam distributed in an irregular manner and in a single layer in the foam, the total weight of the particles being of the same order of magnitude as that of the foam. The foam may be a cross-linked polyethylene and the particles (Figs. 1 and 3-8, not shown), e.g. steel balls, may be inserted in the foamed sheets 1 by heating the balls, scattering them on the sheet and pushing them in where they adhere firmly to the sheet by melting of the foam.
