Abstract

1,209,048. Coated foamed material. KLEBER-RENOLIT PLASTIQUES. 15 Dec., 1967 [16 Dec., 1966], No.57162/67. Heading B2E. Open-cell foam material, e.g. a polyurethane, polyester or polyether open-cell foam material, is rendered weldable by treating foam with a powder of a thermoplastic material which has a granulometry such that at least 70% of the powder will pass the screen size 100 and will be returned on the screen size 240, the screen sizes being as set out in British Standard No. 410 (1969), the foam being impregnated 'by the powder to a depth of at least 2 millimetres. The foam may be impregnated with from 100 to 300 grams of powder per square metre. The thermoplastic material may be a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate containing from 3 to 15% by weight of vinyl acetate, a polyethylene, or a copolymer of ethylene. The foam material may be treated with the powder by passing it through a fluidised bed of the powder, or the powder may be projected electrostatically at the foam.
