Abstract

1408741 Closed cell polyolefine foams POLYTECH SYSTEMS Inc 10 Jan 1974 01185/74 Heading C3C [Also in Division B5] A closed cell polyolefine foam article, e.g. a rod, is made by extruding a mixture of molten polyolefine resin, a particulate nucleating agent, at least one fluorocarbon expanding agent and 1-20% by wt., based on the resin, of an acrylic resin and/or impact polystyrene which acts as a barrier material for blocking gas migration through the cell walls as the foam is being generated. The polyolefine may be polyethylene. The expanding agent may be a mixture of dichlorodifluoromethane and monochlorodifluoromethane. The acrylic resin may be an acrylic resin. The extruded mixture may contain an ionomer, zinc stearate, calcium silicate (as nucleating agent) and naphtha.
