Abstract

1,210,626. Foamed olefine polymers. HAVEG INDUSTRIES Inc. 18 Feb., 1969 [19 Feb., 1968 (2)], No. 8839/69. Headings C3C and C3P. A foamed olefine homopolymer or copolymer thereof with one or more other olefines or polar ethylenically unsaturated compounds is produced by extruding a melt of the polymer to which has been added a hydrocarbon and/or halogenated hydrocarbon blowing agent, which boils below the m.p. of the polymer and 0À1- 10% by wt. of a partial ester of a C 12-18 fatty acid and a polyol having 3-6 hydroxyl groups. The polymer may be low or high density polyethylene, stereoregular . polypropylene, or a copolymer of ethylene with propylene, vinyl acetate, ethyl acrylate or a salt of acrylic acid. The partial ester may be glycerol mono- or di-stearate, or sorbitan mono-, di-, or tri-oleate. The blowing agent may be a mixture of dichlorodifluoromethane and hexane or heptane. The polymers may also contain zinc stearate and calcium silicate as lubricants and nucleating agents.
