Abstract
1322027 Foamed plastics articles; laminates METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG 17 Nov 1970 [8 Jan 1970] 54684/70 Headings B5A and B5N Foamed plastics articles are produced by heating the foamable mixture of an intially solid plastics material and an initially solid expanding agent, one surface of the mixture being heated to a temperature T 1 above the melting range of the plastics material and the opposite surface is maintained at a temperature T 2 below T 1 so that an unfoamed solid surface structrue results on the opposite surface while the remainder of the material is foamed. T 2 may be below or as high as the melting range or the other side may be cooled. The mixture may contain a cross linking agent if desired and may be in powder form or shaped into a plate, sheet &c. before foaming. The plastics may be thermoplastic or thermosetting, e.g. polyolefin, polyamide, a copolymer of ethylene, propylene, butadiene, a vinyl compound, acrylonitrile and/or styrene, or an ABS terpolymer. A reinforcing or decorative sheet may be applied to one or both sides of the foamed product or between two sheets thereof. The reinforcing or decorative sheet may be aluminium foil, or regular or random fibres or filaments, e.g. plastics, glass, metal, or carbon.
