Abstract

1,244,284. Moulding cushions. MARLEY TILE CO. Ltd. 4 March, 1970 [11 March, 1969], No. 12826/69. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A4] A method of producing moulded foamed plastics cushions comprises dividing a mould into two compartments by a sheet of air-permeable material compatible with the foamed material, through which gases can escape from the mould during foaming, and allowing foamed plastics forming compositions to expand in the compartments, whereby an article comprising a layer of air permeable material sandwiched between cushion portions of foamed plastics, is produced. The air permeable layer is held around its periphery between a base and closure member of the mould to form the compartments. Equal amounts of foamed plastics forming compositions are introduced into the compartments and the mould is shaped to form cushion portions of equal size and with bevelled portions on either side of the air-permeable sheet. The compositions may be polyurethane foam forming composition, polyurethane polyether or polyester foam forming composition, or a composition based on vinyl chloride homopolymers or copolymers of a polyethylene. The air permeable material is formed of air permeable paper, polyester, polyvinyl chloride material or open cell foamed polyurethane, from 0À25 to 0À5 inch thick, and preferably 0À375 inch thick.
