Abstract

978,164. Mattresses. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. March 22, 1962 [April 6, 1961], No. 10940/62. Heading A4M. [Also in Division B5] Resilient cellular articles, for example mattresses, comprise a core of synthetic foam material, preferably polyurethane, covered on at least part of its surface by a latex foam material, which can be natural or synthetic or a combination of the two. The vulcanizing process is carried out in a mould (Division B5). The latex is about 5 mm. thick and may contain mineral fillers. Cells (Fig. 2 not shown) may be formed on the outside of the latex. The core may be formed of bonded fragments of waste material either as a uniform sheet or as a honey-combed sheet 4 between thin sheets 5, 6 of polyurethane foam (Fig. 3). Alternatively the core may be composed of two grooved blocks 8, 9 forming longitudinal grooves between them with polyurethane foam sheets 10, 11 on the grooved edges (Fig. 4). Cushions &c. with convex curved faces are made by varying the thickness of the latex around a parallelepiped core (Fig 5 not shown). Specification 748,990 is referred to.
