Abstract

1473841 Burners J W MIDDLEMAS and E C JOPE 16 July 1974 [17 April 1973] 18521/73 Heading F4T An apparatus for firing a furnace comprise a burner 14, with a liquid or gas fuel injector 12, a cowl 4 having a double-walled section 18 surrounding the injector, the inner wall being provided with apertures 5 and a gas supply 1 communicating with the space between the walls. The burner is incorporated in the wall of a shaft kiln 15 charged with particles of limestone, dolomite, or magnesite 13, and gas is supplied to a gasifying chamber 16 from ducts 2, 6' through inlets 10, to be mixed with fuel issuing from injector 12, the mixing taking place adjacent the entry point of the kiln. A duct 1, provided with a sight hole 8, supplies recycled gas to the interior of the cowl via the space 21 in the double wall, and apertures 5. The supply of gas from ducts 6, 1, 2, is regulated by valves 22, 23, 24 and 3. Air can be admitted into cowl 4 by means of a movable control plate 7, which is secured by a locking pin 11.
