Abstract

1473563 Metal vapour lamps GTE SYLVANIA Inc 28 June 1974 [19 July 1973] 28930/74 Heading H1D In a metal halide discharge lamp, filled with Hg, NaI, ScI 3 and inert gas, convection is maintained as a single cell without radial flow in the region between the electrodes when the axis is other than horizontal by expanding the central region of the arc tube, e.g. when 6 inches long from 0À851 inches O.D. at the ends to 1À194 inches at the centre, corresponding to a diameter ratio of 1À4 and a ratio of arc length to maximum diameter of 3À4. The maximum diameter may occur slightly above the centre.
