Abstract

1473098 Fixing hammer handles; hand hammers THOR HAMMER CO Ltd 8 May 1974 [8 May 1973] 21807/73 Headings B4K and B4C A hammer comprises a head 11 having a transverse opening 12, a handle 10 having a solid end 13 extending through the opening and a wedge member 15 driven generally axially into the handle end to expand it into engagement with the opening the wedge member being tubular and generally tapered in overall form. The wedge member preferably has external and/ or internal rib, barb, groove or thread formations 16, 17, 18, (20), (21) and may be of plastics material, malleable iron, diecast zinc alloy or aluminium alloy. The hammer head may be of metal or plastics or a combination thereof and may have a metal body with one or more replaceable striking faces of plastics, rawhide, copper or aluminium. The wedge may have a self-tapping screw formation and be driven into the handle with a screwing action.
