Abstract

1,232,514. Handle fixings. STANLEY WORKS. 16 May, 1969 [26 June, 1968], No. 24995/69. Heading B4K. A hand tool, e.g. a hammer, has an elongate tool head 12 provided with an aperture 24 receiving a fibre-reinforced handle 14 as a tight fit, handle 14 having opposed surfaces 56, 58 within the aperture in secure contact with the head over a major part of the extent of each surface, but spaced from the head adjacent that end of the aperture from which the handle extends, as at 66. The handle may be of fibrereinforced plastics. The aperture may have a tapering cross-section over that part of its length in contact with the handle, the taper being less than or equal to the handle taper. Side-recesses (Fig. 2) between the handle and head may contain adhesive, and side ribs 74 may be provided for aligning the handle in the aperture. A rib 76 on the handle may be deformed during assembly of the tool head to the handle.
