Abstract

1446204 Attaching handles to tools JACOBS MFG CO Ltd 21 Feb 1974 [5 March 1973] 10635/73 Heading B3A [Also in Division B4] A method of fixing a bolster 12 to the blade 10 of a bladed hand tool comprises forming the bolster with a hole 20 extending from one end to within a short distance of the other end and a slot 22 narrower than the diameter of the hole 20 and intersecting said hole, forming a blade with a root end having at least one hole 14, or slot 16 or groove or indented configuration, inserting the rootend of the blade in the slot 22 and injecting a molten metal, e.g. white metal, adhesive or other filler material along the axial hole 20 so that it flows into the hole(s), slot(s), grooves(s) &c. to firmly unite the bolster and blade. The bolster may have a splined or knurled portion 26 for attaching a wooden or synthetic plastics handle.
