1472917 Multi-cylinder printing press VAN VLAANDEREN MACHINE CO 23 April 1974 17714/74 Heading B6C A sheet-fed printing press comprises a first printing cylinder 20, Fig. 4A, mounted in a frame together with a second cylinder having an effective diameter which is an integer multiple, non-unity, of that of cylinder 20, e.g. three times the diameter in Fig. 4A, with an equal number of work areas provided around the periphery of the larger cylinder; at least two other printing cylinders A-11 provided with printing plates A-12 thereon and with associated inking trains A-16, each of the printing cylinder A-11 having the same effective diameter as that of impression cylinder 20; and groups of cams, e.g. cam KK-7 for controlling the plate cylinders A-12 so that they roll in contact with one or all of the work areas on the larger printing cylinder. Preferably an offset blanket F-45 is mounted on cylinder 20, and a printing plate F-43 on at least one of the work areas of the larger cylinder, the remaining areas being occupied by offset blankets F-42. Inking and dampening units BB-6 may also be added and controlled, the various units being provided in modules as disclosed and claimed in divisional Specification 1,472,918. The controlling and sheet-feeding arrangements can therefore be utilized to provide a number of different modes of operation of the press, the cam determining which of the printing and inking units are operating, and in which sequence.
