Abstract
1472333 Cryostats MAX-PLANCKGES ZUR FORDERUNG DER WISSENSCHAFTEN EV 11 July 1974 [18 Oct 1973 2 May 1974] 30749/74 Heading F4H In apparatus for producing, with the aid of a cryoliquid 18, predetermined temperatures above or below the boiling point of the cryoliquid at or on the surface of a closure seal 20 of a cryostat, the liquid passes from a supply vessel 17 into a tube-like evaporation chamber 24 formed by the seal 20 and walls 19 of a heat insulating material via a constriction 23 formed between an insert body 22 and the walls, a heater 21 of variable output being located in the chamber at a region remote from the constriction. The insert body is of heat insulating material, e.g. plastics or sintered material, is arranged movably and shaped conically to vary the size of the constriction. The closure seal 20 is of heat conducting material, e.g. copper, which is provided with a clamping or like retaining means for a sample to be cooled (not shown). The heating device comprises one or more electrical heating elements arranged either within the evaporation chamber or on one of the chamber walls to achieve a desired temperature and a quasistatic vapour zone under positive pressure which supports the cryoliquid in the vessel 17 under steady state operating conditions.
