Abstract

1441758 Furnace atmospheres W GOHRING 11 Sept 1973 [16 Sept 1972] 42569/73 Heading F4B Apparatus for preparing a gaseous mixture suitable as a furnace atmosphere comprises a reaction chamber 3 surrounded by thermal insulation in which fuels, e.g. hydrocarbon-air or ammonia-air mixtures are heated by an electrical heater 4 to a temperature of from 750‹ to 1100‹ C. and then passed into a spaced furnace 1. Heating occurs in a thermally insulated tube 2 between the reaction chamber 3, Fig. 1 and furnace 1, which tube is at least partially heated by further heaters 4 in an opening in the wall 6 of the furnace, or the reaction chamber may be formed wholly within the wall and comprises an electrically heated catalytic heater.
