Abstract

1470526 Peeling tails of crustacea NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 7 Nov 1974 [20 Nov 1973] 53879/73 Heading A2U A machine for extracting edible flesh from the tails of' crustacea (Nephrops, Pandalidae, Peneidae and Palaemonidae) comprises a pair of adjacent parallel rollers 3, 6, an endless belt 1, means for driving the belt to convey tails placed thereon to the nip of the rollers, and means for driving the rollers in contrarotation, the arrangement being such that tails placed on the belt with their ends pointing in the direction of motion of the belt are drawn into the nip between the rollers whereby the flesh is squeezed ont to a location upstream of the rollers and the shells pass through. In the embodiment shown a stream of water from orifice 12 washes the expressed flesh down chute 17 into receiver 18.
