Abstract
1470318 Cathode materials and processing PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 June 1974 [6 June 1973] 24403/74 Heading H1D A high current-density electron-emitting cathode comprises known emitting triple oxide (Ba, Sr, Ce) layer 2 formed from 7 : 6 : 1 w./w. triple carbonate adhering to a Ni support 1, formed by known powder metallurgy method using Mg and C added to carbonyl nickel. To improve adhesion, levels of Si, Al, Ti in the Ni are kept below 50 p.p.m. w./w. The cathode may be tubular with helical heater 3 as shown, or of "pot" formation, emitting from the base of a cylindrical cavity. Applications suggested are CRT's, travelling wave tubes and klystrons, and for the "pot" cathode high power amplifying tubes.
