Abstract
1298362 Cathode materials and processing MULLARD Ltd 16 March 1970 [31 March 1969] 16735/69 Heading H1D A method of making an electric discharge tube containing a photocathode comprises coating a source of photoconductive material C with a silicate sealant D, baking the tube envelope without breaking down the sealant and raising the temperature of the source to break down the sealant, evaporate the material and form the photocathode. An Sb bead C is formed on a cranked Pt coated Mo wire AB and coated with Na, K or ethyl silicate. The bead is mounted in a tube which is evacuated and baked at 400 C. A large current pulse is passed through the bead to evaporate the Sb which is directed by shields to the cathode. Imaging and photomultiplier tubes are referred to.
